(7/12/12) My friends from Oregon came through Brentwood and stopped for a few days on their way back home from San Diego to Portland. As always we had a fun time until I totally goofed, “And Opps,I Did It Again”
(but didn't have as much fun as Brittney Spears).
Yesterday, Janet and I went to our lovely pool at Summerset and for a while we were the only ones there. She commented that I really needed to use a cane because
my gait was so uneven and that I should never go there alone but I said …”oh no I am fine, I am really careful, and didn’t fall much”. (She is a registered nurse). We had an appt. for a pedicure at 4:00 PM so packed up
our stuff at 3:30 and left the pool. As I was going through the gate, PLOP, I fell! Into a bush! Well, it was so embarrassing, because in no time at all a small group gathered trying to figure out how get me up, gracefully………that’s
impossible for starters! Usually, the only way I can get up is to roll over, put something under my knees, & get on all fours then try stand!! Is that a pitiful picture or what??!! Unfortunately, when I fell, I twisted my foot ankle &
knee under me, as I crashed into a bush, so that method did not work. Soon my “white knight”, (Jim) drove up in our blue van and I knew I was saved. So he, (Jim) and Janet pulled me up, with blood streaming down my arm, from the bush,
and I hobbled to the van with cheers from the onlookers watching this drama unfold. (For those of you that don’t know me, I have 4” bolts in my ankles from fusions, artificial knees and hips and spinal stenosis…kind of
bionic I’d say. In fact I tell folks” I won’t wear out, I’ll rust out”! THAT is the reason I can’t get up easily, actually not at all without help!)
When we got home,
now really hurting, I was literally “put to bed”, leg elevated & foot iced. I called my Dr.’s office, I have a foot/ankle surgeon, knee surgeon, hip surgeon & spine specialist there at Muir Orthopedics and they couldn’t
get me in….go figure. In the past few years I have been the main financial support for this group of Doctors. So this morning, I went to the Urgent Care Center in Brentwood. Now for future reference I have to say I do NOT live in “OJ”
Brentwood in So. California, I live in the Bay area in a darling farm community, so unless you have the good fortune to live in “my Brentwood” you cannot go to my wonderful local Urgent Care & Medical Center.
From the moment I walked it people were lovely. It is really embarrassing when I go to x-ray, etc., because everyone knows me and beside questions about the current real estate market, I get lots of hugs. When we were in the Dr’s office,
we met a darling lady, the “medical assistant, Dee. She fluttered around me like a mother hen over her baby chick. She served up loving care with a warm wonderful personality. I now have decent crutches, a boot w/ all accessories, a brand
new tetanus shot, and a bandaged arm from my fight with the bushes when I fell, she was wonderful! It was her birthday, so we stopped & got her a little thank you /birthday flower & dropped it off. As we were driving home
we decided what a fun day we had at the Brentwood Urgent Care Center. Are we nuts or what??????
